One half of a Year

My Darling Child,

You are 6 months old and are a man on the move and are keeping Mommy and Daddy on their toes or at least quick off their butts.  You are working on crawling and soon we’ll be running after you.  Floor time is essential to your happiness – and a fascination to us.

You are one of the most curious children and talk to us and explore and movemovemove….

You are beginning to push yourself up in an almost sitting position and you end up just looking like the cutest little lounge lizard there ever was.  You are quick to smile and have the cutest rosiest cheeks that just melt me or make me want to kiss you all over.  You love to give eskimo kisses and rest your forehead against mine….ahhh….would you just stay like this forever?  I so wish you would but instead you have decided to mark your 6 month milestone with a brand new TOOTH!  I’ve been trying to get a picture but your tongue keeps getting in the way.

You and I took our first trip back to KC by ourselves…that was an experience.  The first thing your ever organized mum forgot was your food.  I have found that I do not handle situations quite like I used to or it may have to do with the fact that if the situation involves you…well, my mind loses it and I panic.  Your Daddy came to the rescue and we got on our flight and you were just perfect.  I on the other hand was sweating, red faced, cussing, breathing hard and had a tough time trying to get the bottle together.  If it the whole situation wasn’t bad enough already – the flight was full and I had to sit on the aisle and next to a couple that I think would have rather had me sit on the opposite side of the plane.  Trying to pour water out of a plastic bottle into one of your bottles and hold you while also trying to get formula scooped out of one of those ginormous cans into your bottle while the overhead air thing is blasting straight into the can and blowing formula EVERYWHERE while holding you and trying to keep your little hands off of everything and also from grabbing and pulling the bottle or the can or my hair or nose hair….was just damn near impossible.  We were successful in the end and you were a perfect little boy the entire trip.

I was beyond tired.

Right now we are going through some more daycare debacles…and it has occurred to me that I would rather not work but stay home with you.  I did not feel this way when I first went back to work and you were so tiny.  Now though – I am so focused on keeping you going and learning that it is hard to feel comfortable having someone else take care of you.

I also know that I just think you are completely fascinating and am a bit afraid that I can’t give you everything you need.  Not for lack of trying but not being able to keep up with you.  You are one smart little boy.

It has all gone by so fast these past 6 months.  I’m sure we’ve made some mistakes and we have all learned so much – and walked away unscathed for the most part.  You did manage to break my nose but I won’t hold it against you…the smile more than makes up for it.

You are amazing.

Love,

Your Mom

Daycare Update

2 March, 2009

We found another…and after only 1 day both Dodo and I commented on the fact that he seemed to have a different attitude this evening…in a good way.

We can’t quite figure out what the change is since he is a happy baby in general and has been a happy baby but tonight we had less fussiness and more just go go go and laughing pretty much the whole time.

It was interesting to read the comments on my last post…yes, schedules are definitely important and I think that they are good but you have to find your child’s schedule first and then see if you can mold it around a schedule that will work for you as well.  Plus, especially at his age, you have to be willing to have something good going 1 week and the next completely change it.  Having this attitude, well, this is why he is not in a corporate-type daycare.  LiDo has had a pretty constant “schedule” since he was born and there have been tweaks, etc. through the past 5 months but the only thing that I am constant on is that he eats solid food at 6:30ish starts on down-time at 8 and is asleep by 8:30pm.  I don’t even do the same thing each night…i.e. bath every night, etc. (hell, the kid is lucky to get a bath once a week)….

Ahh – don’t you love the different sides of parenting.

Bottom line on the old babysitter…she gave me too much grief and wasn’t for us.  Unfortunately because I really think he loved the other little kids there.  Although there are some cuties at the new place.
